The just1mike foundation raised $8,500 during Sudden Cardiac Awareness Month in October to fund free in-school heart screenings for all students at Hinsdale Central and Hinsdale South in April 2024. The money also will be used to purchase AEDs for future donations.
Junior Board members Jackson, Connor and Spencer Mangone; Bridget Schwarz; Sofia Marcic (College Junior Board); Maddie and Evan Starr and their families kicked off the month with a walk from Burlington Park to the SaveStation at Burns Field on Oct. 7, which would have been the 24th birthday of Michael Brindley, a Hinsdale Central student who passed away in 2016 from sudden cardiac arrest at age 16.
Michael’s parents founded the just1mike foundation to honor their son and to prevent another family from losing a child to SCA.
